Teegan was not surprised at his father’s attitude. To Rex, power was far more important than his own son.
Losing a son could be remedied by having another, but once he lost power, reclaiming it was extremely hard.
At that time, all of Rex’s energy was focused on maintaining his control of Beast City. Beast City was divided among three beast generals, each responsible for their own territory. Rex’s ambition was to subdue the other two beast generals and eventually take command of the whole city.
The city lord had not shown himself for quite some time, and it was certain that he was preparing for his ascension to immortality. Once the city lord ascended, beast City would undoubtedly need a new leader to take his place.
Rex aspired to become the new city lord. Thus, before the current city lord could ascend to power, he planned to expand his influence, aiming to swiftly absorb the forces of the other two beast generals.
In reality, he wasn’t alone in having such an agenda, for the other two beast generals shared the same sentiment.
Jaime also had aspirations of ultimately becoming the city lord. That was why he had gone out of his way to curry favor with the foreign officials, even promising them a plethora of benefits.
Meanwhile, Teegan led his team away, off to find the individual who had been secretly buying up the celestial crystals.
“Mr. Teegan, this is the place. We’ve confirmed it. The owner of this courtyard house is named Billy. He’s a human cultivator, but he’s been hiding his aura. Moreover, he’s been secretly purchasing celestial crystals at a premium in Beast City,” the butler of the Buckley family softly reported to Teegan.
Looking at the unassuming courtyard before him, Teegan stated, “Surround this place, and summon Mr. Rundacel over. There’s definitely an arcane array here. My father once advised me to win people over rather than resort to violence. Now, we need all the help we can get!”
Teegan knew that the courtyard was protected by an arcane array, and thus, couldn’t be entered by force. Moreover, for a human cultivator to have been hiding in the Beast City for such a long time, and to have been secretly purchasing spirit stones, he must have some skills. Thus, Teegan wanted to recruit Billy and have the latter work for him.
“Sir, we’ve already surrounded the area, and Mr. Rundacel is also on his way…” the butler said.
After hearing this, Teegan looked at the butler with great admiration. After all, to become the butler of the Buckley family, one must possess the ability to read their employer’s intentions.
A few minutes later, an elderly man dressed in a long green robe, sporting a goatee, arrived.
He was none other than Riehl Rundacel, the array master Teegan had summoned.
Someone of his expertise was highly respected in the Beast City.
“Mr. Rundacel…”
Upon seeing that Riehl had arrived, Teegan and the butler burriedly stepped forward to greet the former.
“Mr. Teegan, what can I do for you?” Riehl asked.
“Mr. Rundacel, there is a human cultivator hiding inside this house. I suspect that the house is protected by an arcane array. So, I hope you can help us break this formation without alerting the person inside,” Teegan said.
“That’s easy…” Riehl concluded as a rune began to shimmer within his palm.
Following a gentle wave of his hand, the rune slowly dissipated. Then, a faint white light flashed around the entire house, after which there was no reaction at all.
“It’s done,” Riehl declared in a nonchalant manner.
“That’s it?” Teegan was astounded, and then couldn’t help but praise, “Mr. Rundacel, you truly live up to your reputation as a renowned array master!”
“A low-level arcane array such as this can be dispelled with a snap of my fingers. It’s nothing impressive,” Riehl stated with a smug grin on his face.
After breaking through the formation, Teegan stormed into the courtyard with his men.
At that moment, Billy was sorting through the celestial crystals he had acquired. He planned to have Jared come and collect them. After all, having too many celestial crystals in his possession could attract the attention of the city lord mansion.
Given that the entire house was safeguarded by an arcane array, Billy never expected that someone could barge in without his knowledge. As a result, he had let his guard down.
By the time he realized someone had arrived, it was already too late.
